A visit to the Cockpit Country is more than just an excursion, it is a journey through time and culture itself. Visitors who plan to hike some of the trails are advised to bring long pants, comfortable walking shoes, a head covering, sunscreen and mosquito repellent.
A backpack or easily portable satchel is also recommended for carrying water and personal supplies.

There are also various natural attractions, including rafting excursions, caves visits, Great House tours, and waterfall and park outings.
The Cockpit Country is made up of several distinct communities, each of which offers a unique window onto Jamaican culture. Some of the main regions include, Accompong, Flagstaff, Windsor, Wait-A-Bit/Litchfield, and Sherwood Content. Many of these centers are located close to the Cockpit interior, while others can be reached via a 2-3 hour drive.
