Built by the British Army during the Maroon Wars in the 1700s, this trail is one of the most interesting and formidable hikes in Western Jamaica. One of the only remaining routes traversing the Cockpit Country, its contours and embankments remain highly impressive in its seldom-used state.

Home to the acclaimed Windsor Research Center, Windsor is a small community cradled in a narrow valley surrounded by towering cliffs. It lies at the farthest point within the Cockpit Country and displays the natural beauty of Jamaica’s interior in its fullest expression. Despite its isolated location, Windsor is the most visited settlement in the region. It is well-known for the Windsor Great Cave, a location popular for its geological majesty, history, and animal life.

Windsor Cave, donated to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) in 1995 under the provision that it remained undeveloped, is one of the finest and most popular cave systems in Jamaica. Its caverns, stretching at least three miles in a twisting maze of columns filled with stalagmites and stalactites, are home to eleven species of bats.
