<p>The Interpretive Centre was constructed under an agreement between the Forestry Department and The Nature Conservancy (TNC), a US-based non-profit organization operating in Jamaica for the past 17 years.  Dubbed as the gateway to the Cockpit Country, the Centre’s aim is to increase awareness and understanding of the environment and encourage protection and enhancement of the region.</p>

<p>The twin tombs in the village of Lacovia are believed to contain the bodies of two young men killed in a local duel in 1738.  Only one of the deceased is identified, Thomas Jordan Spencer, whose crest indicates a possible connection to Winston Churchill and Lady Diana Spencer.</p>
